Story Highlight

The perfect antidote to any sufferers of Valentines blues!

A Girl Like You may look like simply another chic lit fairytale, but it has much more humour, charm and realism than dozens of other hopeless ‘girl meets boy’ love stories- and that’s coming from someone who has read a fair few of those.

The opening chapter plunges the reader right into the action with the first few pages being comprised mainly of tears, drama and intrigue - a killer combo that definitely entices one to read on. As the narrative unfurls the reader becomes acquainted with the main protagonist - Abigail - (or Abigay as her uni chums call her) and follow her as she lurches from disastrous date to slightly-less-disastrous date. Abby’s indecisive streak and easy going nature are refreshing; not all heroines are determined, independent women or indeed damsels in distress and Gemma Burgess’s depiction of a modern day romance helps to blur these lines somewhat, creating believable characters and situations.

Seemingly inspired by Bridget Jones’ Diary, A Girl Like You is a laugh out loud read and the perfect antidote to any Valentine’s blues.

About the author:

Gemma started writing anti-romantic comedies for girls who like chicklit that comforts and charms without the silly fluffy bits. She lives in Notting Hill in London, but grew up all over the place – mostly Hong Kong. She loves talking and writing, not necessarily in that order.
